The Light Duty Tow Truck Driver & Roadside Assistance Technician is responsible for providing safe, professional towing and roadside assistance services for passenger vehicles, small SUVs, motorcycles, and light trucks. This role requires excellent driving ability, customer service skills, and the ability to respond quickly and professionally to roadside emergencies.
The driver will operate light duty tow trucks, flatbeds, or service vehicles while assisting stranded motorists with towing, lockouts, jump starts, tire changes, fuel delivery, and other roadside services.
Key Responsibilities
Towing Services
Safely tow and transport passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks
Operate flatbeds, tow trucks, and roadside service vehicles
Properly secure vehicles for transport following safety procedures
Perform local and long-distance towing as assigned
Conduct vehicle recoveries and winching when necessary
Roadside Assistance Services
Provide roadside assistance including:
Jump starts
Tire changes
Lockout services
Fuel delivery
Battery assistance
Minor roadside services
Customer Service
Provide professional and courteous service to customers
Communicate ETA updates and service details clearly
Handle stressful roadside situations calmly and professionally
Represent the company positively in the field
Maintain strong customer satisfaction standards
Safety & Compliance
Follow all DOT regulations, traffic laws, and company safety policies
Conduct daily vehicle and equipment inspections
Ensure proper use and maintenance of towing equipment
Maintain a clean and organized tow truck/service vehicle
Report accidents, damages, or mechanical issues immediately
Operational Duties
Respond promptly to dispatched calls
Use dispatch software, GPS systems, and mobile applications
Complete required paperwork and service documentation accurately
Maintain communication with dispatch throughout shifts
Assist during high-volume periods and emergency situations
Qualifications
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
Ability to safely operate light duty tow trucks and service vehicles
Strong customer service and communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Basic mechanical knowledge preferred
Previous towing or roadside assistance experience preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift heavy equipment and tools
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb regularly
Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts

The Heavy Duty Tow Truck Driver & Recovery Operator is responsible for safely operating heavy-duty wreckers, recovery equipment, and towing vehicles to provide towing, recovery, transport, and roadside assistance services for large vehicles and trucks. The role will also execute a majority of light duty recoveries, assistance, and tows.
This role requires advanced towing and recovery skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and the ability to safely handle complex recovery situations in high-pressure environments. The operator must maintain professionalism, safety, and efficiency while representing the company in the field.
Key Responsibilities
Heavy Duty Towing & Recovery
Operate heavy-duty wreckers and recovery equipment safely
Tow and transport commercial vehicles, tractors, buses, RVs, and heavy equipment
Perform accident recovery, winching, uprighting, load shifts, and vehicle extractions
Secure vehicles and cargo properly according to DOT and company safety standards
Assess recovery scenes and determine safe recovery methods
Work with law enforcement, emergency responders, and customers during recovery operations
Roadside Assistance Services
Provide roadside assistance for commercial and heavy-duty vehicles including:
Jump starts
Tire service assistance
Air line assistance
Fuel delivery
Lockout services
Minor roadside mechanical assistance
Breakdown support
Safety & Compliance
Follow all DOT regulations, company policies, and safety procedures
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on assigned equipment
Maintain proper use and inspection of chains, straps, winches, rigging, and recovery equipment
Operate equipment safely in traffic, weather, and hazardous conditions
Report accidents, damages, mechanical issues, or safety concerns immediately
Customer Service & Communication
Maintain professional communication with customers, dispatch, and emergency personnel
Provide accurate ETA updates and service information
Handle stressful and emergency situations calmly and professionally
Represent the company positively in all field operations
Complete required paperwork and service documentation accurately
Operational Responsibilities
Respond promptly to dispatched calls and emergency recoveries
Work rotating on-call, after-hours, weekends, and holiday schedules when required
Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned truck and equipment
Assist with shop duties, equipment maintenance, or operational support when needed
Support team members during major recoveries or multi-unit operations
Qualifications
Valid driver’s license
Valid Class A CDL
Clean driving record preferred
Previous heavy-duty towing and recovery experience preferred
Knowledge of towing, rigging, and recovery procedures
Ability to safely operate heavy-duty wreckers and recovery equipment
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift heavy chains, straps, and towing equipment
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Ability to stand, climb, bend, kneel, and work in physically demanding environments
Ability to work long hours and respond to emergency situations at any time
Ability to safely work near traffic, accident scenes, and hazardous environments
